Please note that this is an antique item and may have scratches, cracks, or chips.
The Millefiori beads date back to the late 1800s to early 1900s. Originating from Venice, these beads are created using the mosaic application technique or mosaic inlay technique. In Africa, they are known as Chacha Soso. The term "Millefiori" is Italian for "a thousand flowers." Following the collapse of exclusive trade with the East, Venetian glassmakers, impacted by the rise of Bohemian glass dominating the European market, developed these colorful decorative glasses as a countermeasure. Millefiori glass became a prominent example, and merchants already engaged in bead trade with Africa crafted cylindrical glass beads from this glass, which were then transported to Africa as trade beads.
