What is special about this saree? BLOCK PRINTED WORK:Block printing is the process of printing patterns on textiles, by means of incised wooden blocks. The wood block is carefully prepared, the areas to show white are cut away with a knife, chisel, or sandpaper leaving the design to show in black at the original surface level. The block is inked and brought into firm and even contact with the cloth and then struck on the back with a wooden mallet to ensure a good impression. The second impression is made in the same way, the printer taking care to see that it fits exactly to the left side or the bottom of the previous impression so that the two printings join up exactly and continue the pattern without a break.
