Chevron beads, also known as star beads or rosetta, were invented in the late 1400s by Maria Valovèère on the island of Murano, Italy. This Venetian bead technique, unique to Chevron beads, builds upon ancient methods. Chevron beads can have up to ten layers and are primarily found in blue, with red, green, and black variants being rarer. The name "Chevron" refers to the characteristic V-shaped pattern. The production of these beads later spread to the Netherlands.
