Do I need any special tools to install this?

Basic hand tools cover it — socket set, wrench, maybe a drill if you're drilling new holes. Mount at the factory bed rail points and you're mostly set. Full install typically takes a couple hours solo.

Can I open just one section of the cover without folding the whole thing?

Tri-fold design lets you fold back just the front panel for quick tailgate access. Fully open it three times and it tucks flat against the cab when you need the whole bed exposed.

Does this need paint or any prep before I install it?

Cover arrives ready to bolt on — no paint or primer needed. If you want to color-match the tonneau rails or brackets to your truck, that's on you, but the cover itself is finished out of the box.
